This is an absolutely wonderful Thai Buddha from the early Ayuthaya period known as Utong C. It still has a strong influence from the 11-13thC period of Khmer domination, but by this time this style of Buddha had evolved into a distinctly Thai style. Many Utong Buddhas have an almost militaristic feel to the face: this one, in the best Utong style, has a much softer look and fee. It is in outstanding condition, with traces of deep red lacquer and gilding throughout. The sculpting and casting are quite good. It has a few original casting flaws that would have been hidden by the lacquer earlier in it's life. It is a very good size at 7 and 3/4 inches high. Pieces like this are very hard to find.
