Country Group: China, Japan and Korea
Extremely rare and early Korean Buddhist figure. Cast in a distinctive alloy which produces a deep red patina- I have seen 2 Korean Buddhas dated to the 7-9th century which were cast from this same alloy. Thickly cast, it stand on its own even though it is cast with the open flat back. There is a casting flaw at the neck, but it is superficial, and does not affect the integrity of the piece. A good size at 7 inches tall. The fan in his hands was mashed a bit as can be seen in the photos- othewise in superb condition. One of a kind.
