This is an incredible 15/16thC jain Shrine. Look at the photos: they say more than I could ever describe in words. This piece came out of a very fine and old U.S. collection many years ago. The central figure has a wonderful gentle depth that is only found on the best of Jain Shrines. It has silver inlays in many of the small figures. (there are sitting and standing deities, elephants, and I think monkeys). The central figure has silver inlaid eyes, nipples and thumbnail. he also has a (?) copper inlay at his heart chakra. The pillow he sits on also has silver and copper inlays. The back, like most of this type of shrine, has an extensive prayer inscribed. it is in exceptional condition, with some surface wear due to centuries of cleaning, but no damage, loss, or repairs. It stands 9 and 1/4 inches high, and is almost 6 inches wide by 3 and 1/2 inches deep. An exceptional item.
