This auction is for an incredibly wonderful Laos Buddha. For those who have followed my auctions for a while, you may have noticed that I have been upgrading my offerings recently. Many of these have been in my personal collection (which has grown bigger than my home!). This is one of my favorites. It is a great piece of provincial art: it is both simple and very sophisticated at the same time. The finial was probably replaced in the 19th century. It was replaced with a hand carved glass finial which adds to the beauty of this Buddha. It is quite heavy at over 22 pounds. It is 15 inches high by 10 and a half inches wide at the knees. The dimensions do not fully convey it's mass, as it has no base and is quite broad. I put a 4 inch Buddha in one photo to give a sense of it's large size. Look at the photos: they convey more than my words possibly could. Extraordinary.
