BUDDHA
17/18th Century Thailand
Bronze, 10-1/2 Inches Tall
This is a fairly rare style of Thai Buddha known as Kanom Tom- there are examples of this style, interestingly, known to come from the far south and far north of Thailand- but not from in between. It is thought that an example came from the south and was emulated in the north.
This type typically had a broad chest and (for a Thai Buddha) a stout body. There is typically no flame on the top of the head. The face tends to be rounded.
This is an extremely fine example of good size- note the finesse of the sculpting and casting. He has what appear to be his original eyes.
