Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is an extremely unusual Buddha unlike any I have ever seen before. The headdress is absolutely unique, with the spiky protrusions in the place of ears. It also has a wonderful double diamond shape over the heart. I THINK this piece is from Laos, although I am unsure. It is certainly S.E. Asian. It has a very distinctive and beautiful face, as you can see in the photos. I suspect that the base originally fit in to a larger base. It is a complex patina, with some of the original red lacquer and gilding. In good condition, with possible loss to the tip of the finial and some to the base. It is a very good size at 9.5 inches high by over 5 inches wide at the knees. It stands over 11 inches on the attached modern base. A one of a kind.
