Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
DEITY
18th - 19th Century Tibet
Bronze, 6 Inches Tall
This is one of the most sublime pieces I have ever had the pleasure to offer for sale. It is a magnificently sculpted, cast, and finished Tibetan Bodhisattva/Buddha Amateyus (represents long life). I have seen this one in an American collection for many years, and have wanted to purchase it in the past: I finally managed to obtain it as part of a group purchase at a time that the owner was highly motivated to sell: Look at the exquisite face, with its deep serenity and equanimity. Notice the crisp casting, and the incredible detail on the base (with its columns, foo dogs, and wavy edge at the very bottom). It looks to have been completely gilded at one time: the soft, warm patina is actually darker than it appears in the photos, but I had to lighten it a bit to show the detail. It stands 6 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide at the base, and weighs a bit over 30 ounces.
