This auction is for an incredible sculpture of a Lion on the back of an elephant. I believe it is from India, and that is at least 19th century, and likely older. The livelinessand spirit in the lion is as good as I have seen in any animal on any sculpture at any price. The casting is excellent. The patina is a chocolate brown that looks to be extremely old. There are remains of gilding which must have originally covered the entire piece. This piece came out of a collection in England. There is a small hole on the back of the lion, and one in the base: they are part of the original manufacture and originally served some function. I could go on about this one, but I'll let the photos do the describing. STARTING AT ONE CENT WITH NO RESERVE, as to me this one is impossible to put a price on. Very special. Stands a bit over 4 inches high.
