Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This is an extremely rare object: It is a very beautiful panel from a Tibetan temple altar. It came out of an old American collection. The (quite knowledgeable) seller put the age at 16th century. It may be a century earlier or later. The central Buddha has an incredibly deep countenance: i have kept this on the wall in my home in a central location. It is in very good condition, with no loss or repairs: there is some wear to the gilding. It is made of either copper or copper/bronze, and looks to be sculpted in repousse. It is a very good size at 12 inches wide by 12.5 inches high at the tallest point. An incredible and valuable item.
