Country Group:The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Item id: 272

This is an extremely fine 18/19th century "Mietra Buddha", or Buddha of the Future. This form of the Buddha, which sits in the "European Style" is uncommon in Tibetan art. It is the first piece of it's type I have come across. The sculpting, casting, and finishing work are excellent. It was hard to capture the detail in the photos. For example, there are lotus petals on the pedistel under the feet, on the lower and upper parts of the base, and around the Buddha's body, with 3 different styles of lotus petal
