This is an extremely rare object: It is a very early large bronze elephant sculpture from Northern Thailand from the ancient Lanna Kingdom. The sculpting and patina are exceptional. It was sold to me as 15/16thC, and it looks to be that old, although I do not know how to date a piece like this. I will guarantee that it is several hundred years old. The ears and tusks are no longer present, and the feet and other areas have some loss. The tail is original, but loosely attached. The piece originally was lacquered and gilded, and traces remain. I have never seen another S.E. Asian animal sculpture of this quality and size. it is close to 10 inches long by 7.25 inches high by approx. 4 inches wide
