Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is an exceptional Buddha that is probably from Laos, although the face and head have strong echoes of Cambodia. The face has a depth and sweetness not often encountered. The base was long ago replaced with a terracotta one: it may be original to the piece, or may be a centuries old modification. If the piece is Cambodian, it may have had a separately cast lead base. Either way, it looks great the way it is. Stands a bit under six inches tall. An exceptional piece.
