Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Large Nepalese Gilt Copper-Alloy Dharmapala -intricately cast tantric bronze. He has 35 fierce heads, 3 ganesh faces and a Buddha at the top. Cast in an enormous number of individual pieces (for example, I believe each face was individually cast-seven of the same size were put together, and seven levels of fierce heads were joined). Each arm and hand, as well as the items in them are also separately cast. There are probably over 100 individual components to this complex and commanding sculpture.
The detail on the hands (I have not counted them) may be 108-perhaps more. Even the small 4 figures in devotion are well cast with beautiful faces. From the estate of a doctor in Monterey California. Probably approaching 100 years old.
Very special-a great centerpiece for any room.
Base is 3.5" tall, 6.5" deep by 12" across. Total height is 22" tall. Much going on here!
