A very early deity flanked by 2 elephants. Classic Uma. This piece was de-accessioned by the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Has multiple museum numbers indicating they it came in to the museum collection in 1960 with a group of early artifacts. Probably from a small kingdom in what is now Pakistan or Afghanastan, and likely from ths Shunga period, which makes it over 2,000 years old. As such an early terracotta piece, it has wear loss and repairs as seen in the photos. Periodically the museum sells off items to raise funds for new purchases.5 7/8" tall, base is 1.5" x 1" x 1"" tall. Base is 7" wide, 4" deep. Attached to a very heavy bronze/lead base. Never seen another like it- even in books. Extremely rare!!
