This is an extremely uncommon and beautiful antique Buddhist Temple Painting from the Shan States in Northern Burma. I believe that this piece may have actually been on the ceiling. The quality, condition, and composition are all first rate. My guess on age is 50 to 100 years old, although I am no expert on this kind of piece. The previous owner believed it to be 19th century. It is a nice size at 30 and 1/2 inches by 31 and 1/2 inches. It has Buddhist scenes, writing, and what I think are Zodiac symbols. Some wear and minor staining, but this is in the best condition of any of the older pieces of this type I have seen. The others had holes and soiling that this one does not have. I had it hanging on the wall next to my computer for several years, but it is time to find it a new home. A one of a kind piece.
