Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Exquisite antique monumental Buddha head. Probably from Tibet- possibly from Nepal. Based on the construction of the underside, I believe this may have been attached to a larger than life body. He has silver and copper inlaid eyes with (modern) semi-recious stone eyes. Lips, mark on forehead and top of the finial also copper inlaid.
Sculpted in an early style which was revived in the 18th and early 19th centuries. I believe this may be from the revival period, though I am unsure how to date it, NOT a modern repro.
Not inexpensive. Sits an impressive 20" tall, 5" diameter on bottom
Never seen another like it. Very heavy.
