Chinese Iron Buddha Plaque. It measures about 11 1/2" high and 8 1/4" wide and sits on a custom base that is 1.75" tall, 12.25" wide, and 1.75" deep.In the book "Transmitting the Forms of Divinity, Early Buddhist Art from Korea and Japan" put out by the Japan Society in 2003. It contains a 7/8thC bronze cast dead ringer for this piece on the cover. I am unsure that mine is a period piece, but the text describes "similar Chinese and Japanese triad plaques were produced by hammering a sheet of bronze against a mold" - it is possible that this one is one of the early hammered examples.
