SUPERB large 16th century Northern Thai/Laos solid-cast standing Buddha. In the very distinctive Lanchang style, which is from an ancient kingdom which spanned parts of current Northern Thailand and Laos. This style of standing Buddha is quite rare to find in bronze from this early period-especially of this quality, condition, and size. I've never seen one for sale before. The vast majority of this style are much later, and made of wood. Note the finesse in the hands, the delicacy of the finial, and the sensitively modeled face. The eyes are quite old- may be original. There are traces of black lacquer and gilding in the hair as well as in a few other spots. 19.5" tall, and is attached to a wooden base that is 3.5" tall x 3.75" square for a total of 23 inches tall. Appox 20 pounds. Very special.
