Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
This is a Mongolian Buddhist figure in a wonderful miniature temple. I have never seen another like this before. It comes from a major Chinese collector/dealer in San Francisco who has amassed a large collection of fine Mongolian clay tsa tsas, miniature bronzes, Thangkas and other Buddhist items. The figure looks to be made from gilded and polychromed molded clay: I have not tried to remove it, as it is mounted in place. There is some expectable wear, but is it is generally in great shape. It comes in a remarkable miniature building made of wood and gesso. There is some loss on one side of the roof and possible repair to one corner of the roof, but it is generally in very good condition for an old and delicate Mongolian item. It had glass on all 4 sides of the structure: I removed the glass in the front to better see the figure. The building is 5.3 inches high and 3 inches wide at the roof line. A remarkable little piece.
