Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is a very uncommon Burmese Buddha from the 17th, or possibly 18th century. it is (I think) from a tribal group known as the Ngao (I've heard the name many times but have no idea how to spell it). For a Buddha of this style, it is a good size, and is well executed. I put a 5 inch Ayuthaya Buddha in one phot to give a sense of it's mass. It has most of it's original lacquer and gilding, and is in complete and undamaged condition. I forgot to photograph the bottom: it is thickly cast and had remains of a blue/black clay core that is very similar to that found on early Shan Buddhas. It does not appear to have had a finial, as the original lacquer and gilding cover the flat circular top of the head. Stands well over 8 inches high by 5 inches wide by 4 inches deep at the base.
