Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Very special antique Mongolian temple piece consisting of 9 thangkas. They appear to have been painted during the same period (I believe by more than one person), and then mounted in a carved and painted frame specifically designed to hold this grouping. The bottom middle thangka is the only one which does not fit perfectly in to it's frame. The back is sealed in a way which makes me think it was consecrated. I've never seen another like it-even in books. Somewhere I have a translation of the text which I will include (as long as I can find it).Frame measures 14.75" x 12.5" x .75" and has 9 miniature thangkas.
