This is an extremely uncommon Lanna Thai (Northern Thai) Buddha protected by a 5 headed Serpent King. I have only seen 2 nice sized examples of this type outside of books (and this is the finer of the two). It has won a first place award in a Thai Buddha Contest (see photo). The certificate will be given to the winning bidder. I could go on about the joyful face, or the superb chocolate brown patina,(or the upside down face of the Naga King on the reverse) but I'll let the photos tell the story. It is in outstanding condition, with no repairs or losses, and with what looks to be a completely untouched patina. It stands 8.25 inches to the top of the Naga by 5 inches round at the base. I put a 5.5 inch Burmese Buddha in one photo to give a sense of the mass of this piece. It weighs 68 ounces with no clay core.
