A rare 13th/14thC Acue Quanyin from the Dali Kingdom, which flourished in Southern China (Yunnan) 1,000 years ago. Very few bronzes have survived from this period- especially as nice as this. This piece is from the very end of the period, from when the Mongols invaded, and the faces of the Acue Quanyins became rounder and the bodies less elongated. There is a very closely related example in the Asian Art Museum in San Francisco. Smaller and not as early than the other related piece I have listed, but prettier. The patina is wonderful. This piece measures 11" tall on its integral original base. From my original personal collection, which I have owned 25+ years. This piece has real charisma and is one of my all time favorites.
