This is a Buddha with an ancient feel. It was reportedly found in the Mekong River many years ago. It is a very substantial piece at 0ver 10.5 inches tall by 7 inches wide by over 4 inches deep. Like many of this type of early Laos Buddha it is extremely heavy: he weighs a full 116 ounces. I put a 7.25 inch Thai Buddha in one photo to give a sense of his good size. The patina is dull due to extended time under water, but he is otherwise complete. He has an expression of deep and serene concentration. The base is quite unusual, with cut floral scroll work on both the front and back, with other designs on the sides. The original; gilding can still be seen in spots on the sides of the base.
