Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
A very rare 19th Century Mongolian Thangka depicting a revered lama or spiritual teacher, measuring 3⅛ inches (8 cm) H x 2.5 inches (6.4 cm) W. The figure is shown seated in a place of honor, hands in a gesture of blessing, adorned in robes of warm saffron and deep green. The expressive face, traditional headdress, and halo reflect a portrait of significant devotional importance. Though bearing age-related wear consistent with its history, the painting retains strong color and character. Rare in both subject and survival, this miniature Thangka is a meaningful addition for collectors of Mongolian Buddhist art.
