Country Group: China, Japan and Korea
Late 18thC Chinese Monk with an intricately carved robe. Appears to be covered in both a gold gilt as well as in a pink-gold (not sure what this is comprised of). Base is consecrated, and inside is large filled with a loose weighty substance. I've seen several of this type described as Chien Lung (late 18thC), so I am guessing this one is from that period. This is much nicer than the others I have seen (as well as being a bit larger than most). Design on robes appears to be carved after the piece was cast in a champleve style. Sits 6.5" tall -- exquisite!
