Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)

Item id: 494

This item is a superbly cast 17th/18thC Tibetan gilded Buddha. It is of the quality usually found at the high end auction houses. I traded a 13thC Burmese Late Pagan Buddha and 2 early amulets for this Buddha. The previous owner gave me both his original bill of sale plus an appraisal from Asian Art Research, which is based in Chicago. The original bill of sale and appraisal will be given to the successful bidder. It had been purchased in April of 2001 from a high end Asian Art dealer on the upper east side of Manhattan through Sothebys for 2200 dollars at that time. The detailed 2 page appraisal done in June 2002 values it at 2500 dollars, and gives references to many other related examples sold at auction by the major auction houses. It has an old repair to the nose which is mentioned in the appraisal, as well as an old repair to the left ear. Itcomes with the detailed appraisal, which adds to the value. It sits 7 and 3/8ths inches tall and is quite heavy at 36.8 ounces due to the extraordinary quality of the casting.
