Superb 10th or possibly 11th century solid cast early Chola bronze deity from India. Condition is very good. One hand worn flat, (this is not actually damage, but because this hand sticks out and the piece is 1000 year old it has been worn flat over time). Solid cast and very heavy. It has some wear, but this is normal for an authentic piece of this large size that is so old- in India people touch their statues a lot-especially on the face. Otherwise near perfect, with an untouched chocolate brown patina. Height is near 18" (45 cm). The best Indian piece I have ever offered on my website in the 17 years I have been in existence. Ecstatic expressive face, graceful sensuous body, perfect balance and radiant glow found on only the very greatest examples. Pala and Chola examples of this size are extremely rare- especially of this gracefulness. It has been examined by a number of experts in Indian bronzes, including one who spent several months in the Chola region studying early bronzes. He said this type with this kind of base is not as common as the square type with holes in it for carrying in processions, but it is known (as type 3), and is everybit as valued and valuable as the more common square base types. Few of this size in this quality from this early date are available on the world market.

Note: The darker cast pictures are the most recent pictures taken.
