This is an uncommon and beautiful antique Buddhist Temple Painting from the Shan States in Northern Burma. I believe that this piece may have actually been on the ceiling. My guess on age is 50 to 100 years old, although I am no expert on this kind of piece. The previous owner believed it to be 19th century. It is a nice size at 37 by 37 inches (a bit over 3 feet square). It has Buddhist scenes, writing, and what I think are Zodiac symbols. Some wear and minor staining, but this is in excellent condition for older pieces of this type. Most have significant holes and soiling. I purchased the best of a large group of these in the 1990's from a gentleman who had collected them in the 1980's when these were more available.
