This is a very good sized and classic 19thC Northern Thai Naga Buddha. This type of (authentic) Buddha is getting extremely hard to find, especially of this size and quality. Naga Buddhas have always been popular, and not that many were originally made. Those that were made in Northern Thailand were sculpted for many hundreds of years in a fairly similar style-this one is from the later period. It sits a very good size at 13 inches tall and is extremely heavy at between 7 and 8 pounds with no clay core. It is quite well cast and is extremely well sculpted. I have had a number of this style through the years-this is probably the largest and prettiest one I have had yet. It has some original casting flaws to the base, but is otherwise in fine condition. The patina is superb and untouched. The Nagas (and probably the Buddha (were separately cast and were put together at the time the piece was originally created. This is a truly striking piece.
