One of my best: this is a very rare and large Ayuthaya period Bronze Walking Thai Buddha. It was collected 35 years ago by a man who was living in SE Asia and who worked for Air America (i.e. the CIA). I recently bought a large part of his estate, which included several early rain drums, many bronze statues, early ceramics, and several other wonderful items. This was one the largest and finest statue in the group. A large and beautiful one of a kind authentic Buddha This kind of piece is simply not available today. It is rare for several reasons- these include its large size, as well as the rarity of it being an authentic 17/18thC walking Buddha,. It is also extremely unusual to have the original patina. It has layers of crusty lacquer, gold leaf, and other unusual provincial stuff on the surface which is hard to identify. This made some of the detail hard to see clearly Thai people often clean them and re-guild and/or re-lacquer them as part of temple maintenance This one is still in its original state. I lightly applied some temple oil after taking these photos, and as if my magic, over the next few days, the surface smoothed out and the detail began to show through. The piece is now much clearer in detail than these photos show. Right now I am unable to re-photograph, so you'll have to imagine the Buddha in these photos, only with more detail. It stands over 35 inches tall (Buddha only) and over 43 inches with the base. The condition is quite good, with only loss of part of one foot. All fingers, robe. flame etc. full intact. Due to the value and rarity of this piece I recommend that it be properly crated and shipped by shipper a qualified in shipping antiques of this size such as craters and freighters. . This will probably cost 400 to 500 dollars. I will, however, cover all domestic shipping costs over 250 dollars.
