Item id: 577

This is a very uncommon 14/15thC Gilded Burmese Buddha, (hard to date because there are no good references in English and there are so few examples), It has thick lacquer which obscures some of the details, but underneath I believe the casting is quite good. Remarkably, I believe that the 600-700 year old lacquer is original, which is extremely rare: It must have been excavated from a chamber or something to be in such condition. The gilding likely also be original, or it may have been regilded along the way (which is often the case), although it is hard to tell definitively: I am not 100% on this in part because the gilding is so complete- it does look correct. It is a little less than 7 inches. I've had this for a very long time, and hadn't planned to sell it, but a client had specifically asked for photos of any early gilded Burmese Buddhas. I have seen one other like this Buddha for sale, which I also purchased and have in my collection.
