Country Group:South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Item id: 578

This is probably the nicest of its type I have ever encountered: It is a regional variation of a northern Thai Buddha. The lacquer and gilding look to be original. This style is sometimes earlier, but I believe this example is 18/19thC. Very heavily and crisply cast. Supremely beautiful face. You won't find one finer. Original casting flaws/loss to the lower edges of the base. Sits 6.75 inches tall. Most pieces of this type and of this stellar beauty you would find on Ebay would be modern emulations-this one is authentic.
