From the estate of a very wealthy New Yorker, purchased in a high end shop in Bangkok in 1963. Receipt dates it at 13thC and I believe it is correctly dated. In 30 years of collecting and searching, I've never seen another authentic early florite or crystal Buddha of this size, let alone in this green color. Has traces or original gilding and burial residue. All inclusions appear to be original to the stone. The quality of the stone with so many imperfections is actually a sign of authenticity, as at that time finding and excavating a piece of florite crystal of this size (of any color, but especially green) would have been a rare event. They would have used the entire stone to the best of their ability. A more modern piece would never have such careful carving on a stone such as this. Also, the remains of gilding (and what appears to be black lacquer)is completely adhered to the stone by centuries of burial. Many crystal Buddhas were buried in the based of stupas, temples, or in the bodies of monumental Buddhas in order to amplify their spiritual power. The actual carved figure is near perfect. The image of an extensively flawed stone carved into a near perfect image is a great allegory for the path of the Buddha. Total height including attached base is 6.5 inches tall, 6.25 inches wide
