This is a wonderful yellow ancient carved glass reliquary deer with original contents from Northern Thailand. It was dug up 30 years ago in the "Hot" or "Hod" district before an area that previously had a number of early temples was flooded to make a reservoir. Any Thai early glass Buddhas are rare: the ones made out of this extremely dense glass are rarer. The glass includes gold and other precious metals, which gives it intense weight and an oxidized surface. This piece is as good as the best pieces in Thailand museums. 3.25 inches long, 2.75 inches at the tallest point. Either carved from 2 attached pieces of glass or cracked long ago. Two backlit photos show translucent quality.
