Large antique Mongolian Thangka. This is a particularly striking example, with a beautiful and serene golden Tara front and center. It is unusual to have a Mongolian thangka of this big size with such a large central figure-this style is more prevalent in the smaller portable thangkas (typically a few inches in size) often found in gau boxes. Image measures 19.5 x 15.75 inches. I purchased this in the 1990's from a respected collector when Mongolia was first opening up to the west. Almost impossible to find now. Probably early 20th century.
