This is a massive bronze 18/19th century Buddha flame finial from the top of a huge Buddha head. The Buddha would have been larger than life size, and would have probably been the central Buddha in a temple. It is very well cast, and almost certainly came from a superb sculpture. I have had many of these over the years, but never one close to the size and quality of this one. It has most of it’s original gilding intact. I had a nicely balanced custom base made for it out of teak. It is sad, but these finials often seem to get separated from their Buddhas over time. They are separately cast on larger statues, and are not firmly mounted. The finial alone stands a full 8 and a half inches (not including the part hidden inside the wood base). The whole piece stands 12 and 1/3 inches high. This is a rare one.
