Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
Beautifully cast, sculpted, and finished Cambodian Buddha with significant Thai influence,13th/14th Century, post Khmer . It has a rod inside that strongly mounts it to the later base, so it cannot see the underside. Good size at 13.5 inches tall, 10.5 inches wide. Well-cast transitional from Khmer to Thai. The original base is missing, which was removed to make other Buddhas during a time of scarcity of bronze (such as during a time of war). This was sometimes done with prized Buddhas in Thailand and Laos. This practice is not done in other Buddhist countries. The figure is large; if it still had the original base and bottom of the legs, it would sit 20+ inches tall.
