Large and detailed Japanese Edo period depiction of the Buddhist Judge of Hell. Either a painting or a hand colored and paint overlaid woodblock print. Came as part of a set of seven(this was the largest by far). Others listed or will be listed shortly. He has heavens above and hell below. Some losses, as seen the photos. Image measures 20 x 22 inches. The set was brought back by a soldier in 1946 from Japan, and then framed and given as a mother's day gift in 1953 ( based on notes on the back of one of the frames). Animated, intricate, and filled with energy. Could use to be re-framed.
