Item id: 6384

Best of the best! Design and detail work, face, overall look-unique- unlike any other Tibetan Buddha. Everybody who sees it stops and stares. If I had to give up all 2500 Buddhas I own and could keep only one- this may just be the one. Stones all original. May have had a crown or other headdress (based on unusual squiggle of metal on top of the head). Exquisite smile lights up the world. I sold this Buddha, but recently bought it back for triple what I sold it for. I feel very lucky to have been able to possess it again, as I've never seen another like it. While the body is repousse (and head is cast), it is extremely heavy and thick compared to the 18/19thC examples (and is literally sinking into its own base over the centuries under its own weight- an excellent sign of authenticity). Spend time gazing into the face and fall in love. Almost feels alive. Remarkably, for such a large Tibetan Buddha, the consecration plate on the underside appears to be original to the piece. Measures 17 3/8" tall, 13" wide, 10.5" deep and 20.25" tall on custom base.

Provenance Nagel 36A 9-11-2008 (Highly respected German auction House- had a full page photo in their catalogue)
