12thC Tibetan Buddha. Measures 8 inches tall, 6.5 inches wide and 10 inches on its custom base. GREAT face. Beautifully cast, with a superb face and wide protruding ears typical of the 12/13thC. The extremely wide base with the very fat lotus petals and the figure leaning far back are also correct for this early period. It is the distinctively shaped head, along with the long neck, protruding ears, large penetrating friendly eyes, and overall benevolent expression that make this piece so special.
The best thing about this Buddha is the way it makes you feel when you sit with it in meditation. It has the magic that few Buddhas do, to facilitate both deep calm as well as the lightness and energy needed to balance each other in sitting quietly.
Maybe my all-time favorite classic very early Tibetan Buddha and one of my overall all-time best Buddhas. Carries a high amount of energy and presence that seems much larger in size and presence.
