16/17thC Thai very high karat gold Buddha. Made by hammering a sheet/sheets of gold over a lay core in a repousse-like fashion. Unlike almost all the other examples of this type you see from this period in Thailand, the sheet of gold used was extremely thin- almost wafer-like. This one is different- the gold is relatively substantial and has weight to it. The sash is a pinker gold and thicker and seems to help support the integrity of the figure. Numerous losses and denting are seen in the photos. Style is classic Ayuthaya. It's a great piece for a home altar. Collected by the previous owner almost 70 years ago in Thailand when special objects (authentic ones) were still available in the marketplace. Even then, this was expensive. The size is 2-1/8 inches tall and 3-3/8 inches tall on its custom base.
