Beautifully cast 19th to 20thC walking Sukhothai style Buddha. One of the most graceful of all Buddhist forms, this meditation in motion shows Thai sculpture at it's pinnacle. The sign on the front of the base dates this to 13- 15thC, but this is almost certainly a revival piece brought about by Rama V (the King and I King) in the end of the 19th century. He loved this form and brought hundreds of large statues from the ancient capital city of Sukhothai to the Bangkok, and commissioned and encouraged the making of large numbers of this type. This is a particularly large and fine example. Height of bronze is 16.25 inches. Base adds 4.75 inches.
