Circa 1800 or earlier Tibetan Copper Repousse Tara. SUPERB and large -sits an impressive 14 1/8 inches tall, 10.25 inches wide, 7.75 inches deep. Figure separates from base (was held on with pins which could easily be replaced to make the base again permanently attached. - holes are intact), but I prefer to keep it this way so you can see the construction inside. The top does sit very securely on the base. Losses include the original gilding, which had probably began to wear, and then was completely removed. The ribbon and lock of hair on the right (facing) shoulder are also gone. Probably had a small bit sticking out of the very top. Otherwise remarkably complete, with incredibly fine fingers (down to the nails), complex chest and jewelry ornamentation, and overall skillful sculpting throughout. The seams on arms and other places are normal, as this type is made of copper and pieced together. When covered with gilding, the seams were invisible. Note that earrings swing freely (and are original). It is thicker and heavier copper than many of this type, suggesting an earlier dating an many. Also, the figure is literally "sinking" into the base as time and gravity cause the weight of the figure to make it slowly sink down over time. This is usually only seen on earlier pieces, as it takes time for this to occur. Best Tara statue I have ever offered.
