Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is a very unusual Mon (I believe) style Buddha from Burma. It appears quite early, and the casting is extremely heavy and provincial. It is large and heavy. It weaighs over 12 pounds (without any clay core) and stands close to 13 inches, and over 14 with the custom stand (the base is not even without the stand). It is over 7 inches wide and five inches deep. The former owner felt that it was 15th century. I am being more conservative and giving it an estimate of 15-18th century, although the earlier date is possible. It is quite uncommon, and I have not had another quite like it. He has a very sweet and simple face, and a lovely robe
