This is one of my finest. It is a large, beautifully cast and finished 15thC Northern Thai Bronze Buddha. It has been cleaned -the high quality bronze gives it an extraordinary glow. You can get a sense of the true age by looking at the underside (as well as the overall feel, quality of the sculpting and casting, the techniques used etc.) It comes out of the collection of an extremely wealthy Chinese-Thai family. The grandfather had amassed an extraordinary collection over a period of 50 years. He is extremely old now, and his grandson, who does not have the same appreciation for the collection, has sold a few of them off. The condition is wonderful, as you can see in the photos. The eyes are modern replacements. The finial is separately cast. It is quite heavy at between 21 and 22 pounds, with no clay core. It sits 16.5 inches tall by 10.5 inches wide. The base is extremely short- if it had a more typical Thai base it would be between 20 and 24 inches tall. This Buddha is not inexpensive, but if you look at the size, age, quality, condition, and beauty, and try to find a comparable one you, will be looking a very long time.
