Country Group: The Himalayas (Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia and Other)
Lovely Amateyus- Bodhisattva of Long Life. This style was made in significant numbers in the late 18th century by the Qian Long Emperor to be given as gifts. They tended to be cast of bronze. This one is cast of pure copper, so I suspect that it may be a 19thC example done in an 18thC style. The quality is excellent. Condition is very good- some loss to headdress, and (as is usually the case on this type) the back plate and bowl which goes in the hands were lost long ago. It was originally gilded, some traces remain in a few spots. There is an inscription. Beautiful face. Sits 7.25 inches tall by 4.25 inches wide. Look at the face and at the details throughout- they are fantastic.
