Very early Bodhisattva flanked by 2 elephants- from Northern India, Pakistan or Afghanistan. Probably contemporary with Gandhara. Donated in 1960 as part of the original Avery Brundage collection, and de-accessioned by the Asian Art Museum 15+ years ago in preparation for the museum's move to their new location. Has significant wear as seen in the photos. A very rare and early object. Has the name of the archaeologist who originally collected and cataloged him (Farquar) along with 2 sets of museum numbers. 4 1/8 inches tall, 5 3/8 inches on custom stand.
