Country Group: South and Southeast Asia (Thailand, Burma, Laos, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Sri Lanka and Vietnam)
This is a 15/16thC. standing bronze Buddha from one of the smaller kingdoms that existed in southern Thailand during that time. It has a very distinctive look to it that incorporates numerous influences including Cambodian (Late Khmer), Thai (Ayuthaya and Utong), Burmese(Mon)) and Laos styles, There are Relatively few of this type of Buddha that were made or that are available in the marketplace. One unusual feature is the way the inscription/word on the front of the base is raised rather than impressed into the bronze. Stands a nice size at 15.5 inches tall, 16.75 inches on a custom stand.
