Large and very heavy Cambodian solid-cast Shiva figure, probably from the 13/14th centuries. Clearly a folk piece sculpted and cast in the provinces, probably during the waning days of the great empire. Has tremendous personality with his stout body and penetrating eyes. Has old collection or museum numbers from 50 to 100 years ago. Purchased from the grandson of the previous owner, who had owned it at least 40 years, and who reported the numbers were there when he originally purchased it. Exceptional example of his type. is 8 inches tall, height on custom stand is 9 1/8 inches.
